Time to Lift the Handicap! You can help

help

Beginning farmers were left out in 2007-2008 and have been left handicapped ever since. To survive in agriculture, these families have had to be among the best farmers. But the burdens continue: limited access to renewal and support programs, higher interest and borrowing costs, family stress, no reserves to buffer the volatility of the sector, and at competitive disadvantage to those who did receive the OCHHP payment.

I'M CONCERNED AND HERE'S WHY:

To Premier/Minister of Agriculture and Food, Kathleen Wynne:

I am surprised and sad to learn that a significant group of Ontario beginning farmers have been handicapped since 2008 because of the design of a Ministry of Agriculture and Food program. After the worst crash in pork markets in living memory, they missed out on an emergency cash payment and as a result have had limited or no access to the farm renewal and support programs since 2008.

Please, take action and give these hard-working young farm families the respect they deserve and the opportunity to fully benefit from programs intended for every farm family.
